Unity Trek

“Turn left, turn left..now turn right, no other right...now keep going straight, good job! you’re almost there!”

Imagine you cannot see a single thing, that everything in your vision is blurry and dark, confusion and fear overwhelm your thoughts; making you cautious with every move you make. In the distance a sound approaches, closer and closer until you feel a presence. A voice is speaking to you, telling you something that slowly comes into focus; IT’S DIRECTION! Telling you where and which way to go, warning you if something is near or if you are going astray. A voice you begin to trust, a voice you have chosen to follow.

The Unity Trek is a Saturday never to be forgotten, a day that was put aside especially for the Young Women to get to know each other individually, and to create a lasting bond that from then on would never be broken.

This Trek would have never happened if it weren’t for our amazing Young Women Leaders and don’t forget our “Super-Duper Safety Guys.”

Our journey took place at the “Home of L&P,” Paeroa, where we began it at a breathtakingly beautiful place called the Karangahake Gorge, that used to be an old mining spot. We were paired up randomly and the goal was to make at least one new friend on the hike and to work together in our teams through UNITY.

The hike through tunnels, trees, bushes and crossing bridges, to be honest, was the most tiring, exhausting 3-4 hours of my life! But it was all worthwhile.

Throughout the walk, I was able to see my gorgeous girls each show their spark. To hear the happiness of their laughter, seeing their truly beautiful smiles shine the whole way through this journey, and to see their true colours come out as we bonded through the activities we did, along with the determination to complete this even though we all had different strengths, made me smile from ear to ear.

The Unity Trek has made me more grateful that I am part of this group of young girls helping each other along the way, strengthening each other through words and actions. I know that I am part of something special that our Leaders helped us see clearly that day.

The purpose of the Unity Trek was fulfilled on that getaway, as we all focused on one thing to move us forward in unity, and help us grow together as darling daughters of God and become one big family.
